The Worthington City Council is expected to approve its preliminary levy for 2024 during its meeting at 5:30 p.m. Monday.
Council members will consider a resolution for the proposed city of Worthington tax levy of $7,739,156. That amount breaks down into an operating levy of $6,702,011 and special tax levies of $1,037,145. The proposed levy represents a 18.0% increase over 2023.
It's stressed that the proposed levy is an amount not to exceed and may be lowered -- but not raised -- for the final levy certification in December.
Also included Monday is a resolution approving the Housing and Redevelopment Authority's 2024 proposed levy of $186,000, an increase of $35,000 over 2023.
The council will host a meeting at 5:30 p.m. Dec. 11 in the City Hall Council Chambers to discuss the final 2024 budget and levy. A Truth-in-Taxation Hearing will take place at this time, where public input will be taken prior to adoption.
In another matter scheduled for Monday's meeting, city council members will consider several resolutions calling for hearings on proposed assessments for each of the following: scheduled bituminous pavement improvements; paving improvements in the Cherrywood Addition; storm sewer improvements in the Cherrywood Addition; paving improvements in Homewood Hills as well as 2023 miscellaneous unpaid charges. The resolutions call for the hearings to take place at 5:30 p.m. Oct. 9 during the regular council meeting.
