The Worthington City Council on Monday approved the declaration of costs to be assessed and ordered the preparation of proposed assessments for a sanitary sewer project. That project carries charges of $21,513 for work on Second Avenue from 10th Street to 12th Street.
The council also declared miscellaneous unpaid charges for removal of noxious weeds and vegetation, as well as unpaid charges for the city’s storm water utility and unpaid charges for its streetlight utility. A total of $4,341.14 will be assessed for those.
A public hearing on the assessed costs has been scheduled for the Sept. 8 council meeting.
In another matter Monday, council members approved a resolution that gives consent to Bluepeak — a franchised cable TV provider in the city of Worthington — to conduct an internal transaction that transfers the cable TV system and franchise currently held by Bluepeak to a wholly owned subsidiary.
Additionally, the council approved a property tax abatement request from Marco Ramos, who is planning the construction of a new single-family home on Cecilee Street, and appointed Shari Mangel to fill the unexpired term of Bridget Huber on the Housing and Redevelopment Authority board.
Worthington City Administrator Steve Robinson noted near the conclusion of Monday's council meeting that work has been continuing on the budget for the next fiscal year, and the 2026 preliminary levy is scheduled to be certified during its Sept. 22 meeting. The preliminary levy can be lowered, but not increased, prior to certification to the final levy.
