City council approves change of zone request

The Worthington City Council on Monday approved a change of zone request for property located at the northeast corner of Sherwood Street and East Avenue.

Maria Parga has requested the change in zone from B-3 General Business District to R-4 Medium Density Residential. The Worthington Planning Commission had voted unanimously to recommend approval of the request during its Jan. 2 meeting.

The change of zone to ‘R-4’ Medium Density Residential will allow for a future house on the lot. The subject property had previously contained a mixed-use building. The zoning is in line with the city's land use goals as established in its comprehensive plan.

Also part of Monday's council session were several annual meeting items. Among them were: designation of the annual meeting and regular meeting times; the appointment of the city council's clerk; designation of the official newspaper and official depositories; and approval of the 2024 committee assignments for city council members.

In another action meeting, the council appointed Jesse Flynn as the City Attorney and J. Vincent Jones as Assistant City Attorney for a one-year period from Jan. 1- Dec. 31, 2024. The office of Woods Fuller serves as the City Attorney by appointment and contract on a yearly basis. The hourly rate for 2024 is $320 plus expenses.
