Bluejays' baseball team drops three of four in games this week

The Minnesota West baseball team heads into a Saturday home doubleheader against Rochester after having gone 1-3 thus far this week.


On Monday, the Bluejays traveled to Austin and took on Riverland. It was a tough game one for Minnesota West, as Riverland emerged with an 11-1, six-inning triumph. The second matchup went much better for the Bluejays, as they won 5-4.


Haruta Endo and Cayden Von Eye each had a pair of hits in game two for the visitors; Endo had two singles and Von Eye had a single and double. Minnesota West got two runs in the top of the seventh to move ahead 5-2, then held off a Riverland rally in the bottom of the inning.


Keaton Husband tossed a complete game for the Bluejays, allowing two unearned runs while giving up nine hits and two walks to go along with one strikeout.


On Wednesday, Minnesota West hosted Anoka-Ramsey in a doubleheader. The Bluejays lost the first game 14-11 in eight innings and sustained a 17-3, five-inning blowout in the second game.


Endo connected for two singles and a double with two RBIs in the opener and Ales Zhao contributed a double, single and three RBIs. Von Eye topped the Minnesota West offense in game two with pair of singles.


Saturday's doubleheader is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. The Bluejays, now 14-22-1, then play two Sunday at Rochester and two more Tuesday at Iowa Lakes to close out the season.

Sports events across the area were either postponed or cancelled Thursday as a result of wet weather.


In the case of Worthington High School sports, the Trojans' boys and girls track and field invite scheduled for Thursday was cancelled. The boys tennis meet at New Ulm was postponed to next Thursday, May 1, and will be a triangular event that also includes Blue Earth. 


A Trojans baseball doubleheader against Belle Plaine that was slated for Thursday afternoon has been rescheduled for Saturday, May 17, with matchups set for noon and 2 p.m. The WHS softball team was to play two at Belle Plaine Thursday; those teams will now meet Friday, May 16.
