Blizzard brings six inches of snow -- and gusty winds -- to Worthington

Schools across the region were closed Monday and multiple businesses and organizations opened late or had delayed operations as the result of this weekend's blizzards.

By Monday morning, roads were still closed in Nobles County and the area. At 10 a.m., multiple roads reopened and remained under a no-travel advisory. Those include all state highways in Nobles, Jackson, Cottonwood, Watonwan, Martin and Faribault counties; Interstate 90 from Albert Lea to Worthington; Highway 60 from Iowa to Mankato; and Highway 15 from Iowa to Highway 19. The Minnesota Department of Transportation had announced these closures at 6 p.m. Sunday.

A total of four-tenths of precipitation was reported at 7 a.m. Sunday in Worthington, according to the National Weather Service along with two inches of snowfall. The Worthington Wastewater Treatment Plant reported at about 10:45 a.m. Monday that totals for the weekend include 6 inches of new snow and .65 inches of precipitation. 

Most of the storm's impact came from winds that blew continuously in the 35-45 mph range through most of Sunday with gusts in excess of 55 mph, according to the Weather Underground website.

Snow is again a possibility for Tuesday, though less than an inch of accumulation is expected. And those moaning about the return of winter can take heart — the high for Friday is expected to approach 70 degrees.
