The Worthington Police Department, along with several other law enforcement agencies, are issuing a warning about a scam pertaining to fake traffic tickets.
The police department on Wednesday stated that it had received multiple calls about a long text message going around about unpaid tickets. The message begins by indicating that it's a final notice from the Minnesota Department of Vehicles, and that enforcement penalties begin on June 7. Additionally, it states that records show the recipient has an outstanding traffic ticket, and — that in accordance with state code — multiple actions will take place if the ticket remains unpaid.
Law enforcement officials reiterate that the message is a scam. People who know they do not have an outstanding ticket should just delete the text message; they may also choose to "block and report" the message. People may also call Nobles County Court at (507) 350-3015 to clear up any confusion about any unpaid tickets.
