Adrian safety rest area will be closed this week

The eastbound Adrian safety rest area on Interstate 90 will close Monday through Friday, May 18-22, for building and parking lot repairs, according to the Minnesota Department of Transportation.

Work includes septic system repairs to support long-term reliability of the system, along with other general maintenance repairs. Crews will also make repairs to the parking lot’s surface.

Both the rest area building and parking lot will be closed to travelers until the work is complete.

In other MnDOT news, aging emergency gates along Interstate 90 in South Central Minnesota will start being replaced beginning Wedndsday, May 20.

The work includes replacing vertical emergency gates, cabinets, wiring, flashers, and road-closures signs at multiple locations along I-90 and at several entrance ramps between the South Dakota border and U.S. 71. The current emergency gates are at the end of their service life.

MnDOT uses emergency gates on major corridors to block traffic during hazardous conditions such as severe snowstorms, crashes or flooding.

Motorists should expect shoulder closures and watch for crews working near the roadway. The project is expected to be completed by mid-July. Schedules are subject to change due to weather or other unforeseen circumstances.

Hunt Electric Corporation was awarded the project with a bid of $1,581,684.60.
