Active Transportation Program grant on agenda for city council meeting

Among the agenda items for the Worthington City Council meeting scheduled for 5:30 p.m. Monday is consideration of an active transportation program grant.

The City of Worthington has been awarded funding through the Minnesota Department of Transportation Active Transportation Program for the construction of the East Okabena Lake trail project. MnDOT has prepared a grant agreement that provides up to $1,000,000 in state grant funding for the project.

The total project cost is estimated at $1,492,135.45, with the remaining funding

consisting of $592,000 in federal Transportation Alternatives funds and $228,602 in local matching funds. The grant agreement outlines the responsibilities of the city and MnDOT, reimbursement procedures, project administration requirements and long-term maintenance obligations associated with the improvements.

Council members are required to adopt a resolution agreeing to the terms and conditions of the grant and authorize the appropriate city officials to execute the agreement and any future amendments.

In a separate business item Monday, the council is scheduled to consider the payment of market rate rental housing assistance to DeRocher Brothers Construction, which was issued a certificate of occupancy July 1 for its 12-unit building on the corner of Grand Avenue and Darling Drive. The city would issue payment of $180,000, or $15,000 per apartment unit.
