Worthington receives little moisture in January; a bit warmer than usual

Worthington received about one-fifth the normal amount of precipitation during the just-completed month of January, according to data compiled at the Worthington Wastewater Treatment Plant. High temperatures, meanwhile, were warmer than the average, as were overnight lows.


The average high temperature in Worthington in January was 25.4 degrees, or 2.8 degrees warmer than the average January high of 22.6. The warmest high of the month, 47 degrees, came during the 24-hour period that ended at 7 a.m. Jan. 14. At the opposite extreme, there was a high of minus-6 recorded for Jan. 24.


The average low in Worthington in January was 6.1 degrees, or eight-tenths of a degree warmer than the average of 5.3. The lowest temperature reading was minus-19 degrees, which came on both Jan. 23 and 24. There were lows of minus-14 on the 26th, minus-13 on the 25th and minus-12 on the 27th.


Worthington received just .14 inches of precipitation during the month of January, compared to the normal amount of .71 inches. There was only one inch of snow measured; that came on the 21st of the month.


Averages for the upcoming month of February are a high of 27.3, a low of 9.6 and .82 inches of precipitation.
