The Worthington Senior American Legion baseball team picked up a big win on Tuesday night against Luverne by emerging with a 1-0 triumph at the Worthington Middle School Field.
Post 5 won thanks to a combined no-hitter by pitchers Chase Byrne and Max Ostrem and just enough offense. With the victory, Worthington improves to 4-1 on the summer.
Post 5 picked up the only run it needed in the bottom of the sixth inning. Ostrem and Tucker Brandner both drew walks, and Byrne then drove home courtesy runner Ethan Anderson with a two-out RBI single.
Byrne, meanwhile, had good command of his fastball and mixed in a share of other pitches in going the first six innings. He allowed just a single baserunner — it came on a hit batter — while striking out seven on just 68 total pitches.
Ostrem, as he has throughout the season, came on to complete the save. Two Luverne batters were able to reach on Worthington errors, but Ostrem used strong velocity and an arsenal of good breaking pitches to help Post 5 lock down the win.
Worthington picked up six hits on the night, all of which were singles. Byrne and Dom Pavelko each had a pair of hits, and Ostrem and Dawson Svalland each connected for one hit.
Post 5 will travel to Ruthton on Thursday for a 7 p.m. matchup against Russell-Tyler-Ruthton. It will then compete Saturday and Sunday in a tournament in St. James.

The Big South Conference has announced its Boys Golf All-Conference Team for the 2025 season.
St. Peter had five of its student-athletes named to the squad to lead all schools. The Saints captured the overall conference championship this spring.
From the region, Luverne had two players — sophomore Will Bergman and
freshman Mallachi Domagala — earn all-conference recognition. Jackson County Central had one representative on the team, junior Tavin Miller.
No boys golfers from Worthington were named all-conference this year.
