Worthington amateur baseball team now 5-2; next game is Sunday

In amateur baseball Wednesday, the Worthington Cubs were handed just their second loss of the season as they were defeated by visiting Pipestone 9-7.
Tucker Brandner started on the mound for the Cubs, going six innings while giving up four runs and striking out 17 A’s hitters. For the Worthington offense, Ethan Meyer collected a pair of hits and Eli Gaul had a two-run double.
Earlier in the week, the host Cubs beat Luverne 7-4 on Sunday. Jake Brandner started the game on the mound, throwing five innings while giving up one run and striking out eight. Tate Gaul tossed the next two innings, McKinley Bush had the eighth and Blake Ahrenstorff pitched the ninth for the save. Tommy Lais led the team with three hits and Daniel Castro, Easton Sauerbrei and Logan Huisman all contributed two hits apiece. Sauerbrei had three RBI and Lais drove in two.
Worthington is 5-2 overall this season. The Cubs next play at 2 p.m. Sunday in Jackson.

The Worthington Community Football Club Toros will play at home for the second time this season at 6 p.m. Saturday when they host the Omaha Street Futbol Club at Trojan Field.
The WCFC is in the midst of its third season and is playing in a new division this year in the United Premier Soccer League, the Nebraska-South Dakota-Iowa division. The Toros have a record of 5-0-1 thus far in 2025.
