Woman transported to hospital after helping with fire

A woman was transported to Sanford Worthington Medical Center for smoke inhalation as the result of a fire Wednesday afternoon in Worthington.

Fire chief Pat Shorter said the fire originated in the laundry area of a Pershing Boulevard residence, and that the woman assisted firefighters considerably by using a fire extinguisher to back the fire down before firefighters arrived. They had been dispatched at 4:08 p.m. Wednesday.

Firefighters were at the scene for about 45 minutes.
