Woman dies in early morning shooting in Windom

A 70-year-old female died Wednesday from injuries she sustained in a shooting, according to a Windom Police Department press release issued Wednesday afternoon.
According to the press release, Windom police were dispatched at 5:19 a.m. Wednesday to the 1400 block of 12th Avenue for a report of a shooting. Upon arrival, officers located the female who suffered the gunshot wounds. Officers provided first aid until the Windom Ambulance was at the scene, and the female was then taken to Windom Area Health.
At 5:28 a.m., officers were advised that a male had broken into a residence in the 1200 block of River Road and was in the bathroom, the press release continues. Officers responded to the scene and located a 38-year-old male. He was taken into custody for burglary and transported to Windom Area Health for treatment of injuries that occurred from the incident. After treatment, the male was transported to the Cottonwood County Jail.
At this time, police believe the two incidents are connected. This is an ongoing investigation, and the press release noted that more information would be provided later. There is no threat to the public at this time, the police department said.
The Windom Police Department was assisted by the Cottonwood County Sheriff's Office and the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension.
