Winter Weather Awareness Week is scheduled for Nov. 17-21

Nobles County Emergency Management is advising residents that the week of Nov. 17-21 is Winter Weather Awareness Week.

Each day of the week will mark a different theme pertaining to winter weather. On Monday, the focus will be on winter weather such as snow and sleet, blizzards, freezing rain, snow squalls, cold temperatures, strong wind, flooding and fog. On Tuesday, the theme is outdoor weather safety, including dressing for the cold and avoiding thin ice.

On the Wednesday of Winter Weather Awareness Week, people will be encouraged to check their space heaters and fireplaces. On Thursday, the focus will be on testing fire alarms as well as carbon monoxide detectors. Finally, on Friday, the theme will pertain to winter driving, as people are encouraged to check MN511 road conditions and make sure they have proper car winter survival kits.

Nobles County Emergency Management has multiple checklists and tips for keeping yourself in the coming winter season. Individuals may contact emergency management director Tawn Hall at (507) 295-5212 or thall.co.nobles.mn.us. You may also find out more online at weather.gov/mpx/whaw.
