Winter storm watch is on through late Friday night

Nobles County Public Safety has announced that there is a winter storm watch until midnight Saturday.

Heavy snow is possible, with accumulations of between 5 to 8 inches in the forecast. The winter storm is expected to move through portions of east central South Dakota and southwest Minnesota and continue from late Thursday night through Friday evening. Travel may be very difficult during the storm, as the hazardous conditions could impact the morning or evening commute.Northerly winds gusting 25 to 35 mph on Friday evening may cause patchy blowing and drifting snow.


Areas predicted to be affected by the winter storm include the Minnesota counties of Lincoln, Lyon, Murray, Cottonwood, Nobles, Jackson, Pipestone and Rock, as well as multiple counties in east central and southeast South Dakota and northwest Iowa.
