Windom tops Trojans in volleyball; WHS boys soccer wins 9-0

Visiting Windom defeated Worthington 3-0 in high school girls volleyball action Thursday night. Game scores were 25-21, 25-23, 25-20.
In game one, Windom pulled well out on front of the Trojans and led by 24-15 before WHS staved off six consecutive game points behind the serving of Natya Khamphanh. Worthington had an excellent chance to take a back-and-forth game two, but with the score 23-23 the Eagles got serve back and then closed it out. The Trojans again tried to rally late in game three but came up short.
Natalia Martinez and Lauren Nixon had six kills apiece for the Trojans and Ava Schutz added five. Kamyrn Olson had 17 digs and Suzanna Shwe 14. Khamphanh and Schutz had three ace serves each.
Worthington, now 3-2 in conference play and 6-7 overall, plays Saturday in a tournament in Rochester.

The WHS boys soccer team improved to 10-3-1 on the season by blanking Fairmont on Thursday at Trojan Field, 9-0.
Andy Guzman scored the first two goals of the game for the Trojans and Kevin Galvez also scored twice. Worthington also got one goal apiece from Danny Banegas, Kuma Buta, Roelme Gonzalez, Elder Lopez and Kevin Morales.
The Trojans will travel to Mankato East for a 1 p.m. Saturday match.

In girls soccer Thursday night, Worthington was defeated at Fairmont 7-0.
