The BARC Board of Directors said in a press release this week that the Windom facility is facing a critical situation as major structural repairs are needed to keep the building open.
While the community recently stepped up to help replace a failed boiler, BARC leaders say a much larger challenge now looms -- the roof over the gym and auditorium. According to the board, the issue cannot be temporarily fixed or delayed, and without funding for repairs, the future of the facility is at risk.
BARC serves as a central gathering place for the community, welcoming thousands of visitors each year for events, activities and programs. Board members say losing the building would mean losing an important space for connection, recreation and community engagement.
As a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, donations to BARC are tax-deductible. Community members are encouraged to contribute, share the message and help reach others who may be able to assist. For questions, ideas, or to get involved, residents can contact members of BARC’s Building Committee, including Mike Foley, Ashley Johnson and Tom White.
