Windom PD announces change in animal impoundment services

The Windom Police Department announced Monday in a press release that due to staffing and other operational considerations, the Cottonwood County Veterinary Clinic will be discontinuing offering animal boarding to the public and stray animal inpoundment services effective Thursday.

As a result, the Windom Police Department will no longer be able to seize animals for the purposes of impoundment, the press release adds.

The Windom Police Department says it will continue to respond to and take appropriate law enforcement action regarding potential animal abuse or neglect, dangerous or aggressive animals, animal-related complaints requiring law enforcement intervention, and other circumstances where an animal presents an immediate threat to public safety.

The Windom Police Department release concludes by stating that the department appreciates the community's understanding as it works through this change, and that the city is working on a potential solution.
