WHS graduate Mike Vorwald to coach at Heron Lake-Okabena/Fulda

The Heron Lake-Okabena/Fulda athletic program announced Wednesday afternoon that Mike Vorwald has been named as the new head coach of the Heron Lake-Okabena/Fulda Coyotes boys basketball team.
Vorwald brings four years of experience of playing college basketball at Northwestern College and the University of Sioux Falls, along with two years as an assistant at Worthington High School and four years as an assistant at Northwestern College under Kris Korver. Vorwald has a strong background in basketball and coaching. He's the son of two educators, Ron and Kris, and his father was a longtime coach in the Worthington district.
Vorwald is excited to build his own program and develop young talent. He will be working in the Heron Lake-Okabena school district starting next fall. There will be a meeting at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 14 for players and parents to introduce Coach Vorwald and allow for him to meet and answer any questions the community may have.

The Worthington Cubs will play their 2025 amateur baseball season home opener on Sunday afternoon when they play Fox Lake at 2 p.m.
The Cubs won the season opener on Sunday in Renner, S.D. 8-1. Ethan Meyer had three hits, and Jake Brandner and Tyler Linder each had two RBIs. Tate Gaul pitched six strong innings, allowing one unearned run and striking out eight. Jake Brandner threw the final inning, striking out three.
