WHS golf teams compete in Big South Conference events

The Worthington Trojans girls' golf team placed second Monday at Montgomery National Golf Club in the first of four Big South Conference events this season. 


Marshall placed first among the seven competing teams with a score of 189, followed by the Trojans at 209. St. Peter was in third at 221.


WHS senior Callie Rosenberg had the best round of the day for the Trojans with a 51; that put her in a tie for seventh place among individuals. Senior Claire Mahlberg and sophomore Claire Meyer finished in a tie for ninth overall at 52. Eighth-grader Ava Schutz had a round of 54 that had in her 11th place. Also competing Monday were Peyton Nickel with a 58 and Jayden Spartz with a 60.


There will be Big South Conference events for the girls as well as the boys for four successive Mondays. Next week's girls meet will be at Marshall Country Club.


The boys' Big South Conference event on Monday, meanwhile, took place at Shoreland Country Club in Kasota. St. Peter came out on top in the team standings with a score of 147. Worthington placed sixth at 189.


Senior Spenser Nickel and seventh-grader Cameron Krommendyk each carded rounds of 45 for the Trojans, which tied them for 21st overall among individuals. Senior Ryan Dorcey was right behind at 46, and the other three WHS golfers — sophomore Gerrit Larson, sophomore Tyson Petersen and senior Ayden Stugelmeyer — all had 53s.


Next week's boys' Big South event will be in Worthington.
