WHS girls tennis team celebrates achievements of fall 2026 season
The Worthington Trojans' girls tennis team celebrated their fall 2026 season with a banquet this past week.
Four awards were presented to team members, including Isabella Kouame for Best Sportsmanship; freshman Claire Schultz for Most Improved; junior Kah Blu Moo for Most Dedicated; and sophomore Lilly Brown for Most Valuable Player. Brown also earned All-Big South Conference recognition.
The team finished its regular season with a record of 6-12. After losing as the No. 6 seed in team sectionals to No. 3 Hutchinson, the Trojans had multiple players advance to a second match at individual sectionals for the first time in team history. Accomplishing the feat were Kah Blu Moo at first singles and Brown and Schultz at first doubles.
Coach Mike Marquardt's WHS squad, which had 11 seniors on its roster and was managed by Quinn Steve, also earned an All-State Academic Silver Award this fall for its collective performance in the classroom. The team had a grade-point average of 3.68.
A total of 42 players in grades 7-12 came out for Trojan girls tennis. Marquardt said it was "a fun and demanding season with multiple matches per week, many rain delays/cancelations and an amazing team chemistry that involved everyone on the team regardless of position played or grade level."
