WHS girls icers drop to 1-1 with 5-1 loss

The Worthington Trojans girls hockey team slipped to 1-1 on the season with a 5-1 loss to Waseca Saturday afternoon at the Worthington Ice Arena.


Waseca started strongly against the Trojans and grabbed a 4-0 lead through the first period. Madalyn Benson had two of the four goals for the guests, who built the big early advantage despite getting outshot 10-9 in the first 18 minutes.


WHS managed just two shots in the second period and Waseca scored once more to make it a 5-0 game. The Trojans did get on the board late in the second period, as Riley Nickel scored unassisted for the lone Worthington goal of the game.


The WHS girls will be idle until Tuesday, Nov. 29, when they host New Ulm.

In the Iowa Class 2A championship football game Friday, it was Central Lyon/George-Little Rock taking home a state title with a 10-6 victory over Williamsburg. The Lions finished the year with a perfect 13-0 record.

In Minnesota Class 2A state semifinal football on Friday, Jackson County Central’s season came to end as the Huskies suffered their first loss of the year, as they were beaten by Barnesville 41-12. Ben Dahlin had an 89-yard kickoff return for JCC, and QB Roman Voss ran 49 yards for the other Huskies score.
