WHS boys soccer, girls VB come away with victories

Jonathan Banegas scored a pair of goals and assisted on a third as the Worthington boys soccer team topped visiting New Prague 3-1 on Saturday.

Banegas broke free from the New Prague defense less than four minutes into the match and beat goalkeeper Sean Christensen one-on-one for a 1-0 WHS edge. After Satchel Johnson got New Prague even on a penalty kick, Banegas scored on a penalty shot of his own and Worthington led 2-1 at the half. Banegas connected with Andy Guzman for a close-range goal in the latter stages of the second half. Kaleb Knothe also boosted the Trojans with multiple saves in net.
