WHS boys hockey team beaten while Trojans' boys basketball team earns road win

The Marshall Tigers got hat tricks from two different players and two goals from another Tuesday night in beating the host Worthington Trojans, 11-0.


Blake Grimsley and Luke Ehlers each scored three times and Nate Drown added a pair of goals for the Tigers, who are now 11-13. Marshall scored five times in the first period and added five more in the second and one in the third. They outshot the Trojans 34-18; Nathan Lenz got the shutout in net.


WHS, now 6-18 on the season, plays its regular-season finale on Thursday night when it entertains Windom. Hear the action on 104.3 La Voz; the opening faceoff is set for 7 p.m.

In boys basketball Tuesday, the Worthington Trojans traveled to Tri- City United and picked up their second win in three games, routing the Titans 81-38. Jacari Swinea had 26 points for WHS, Caleb Meyer added 19 and Isaac Kinser chipped in with nine.

In girls basketball, Tri-City United played at Worthington and defeated the Trojans 69-50. Both WHS basketball teams play at Luverne on Thursday.

In area girls hockey, top-seeded Marshall overcame a 2-0 first-period deficit and defeated No. 2 Luverne 5-2 in the Section 3A championship game to advance to the state tournament next week.
