WHS boys hockey falls in overtime at Redwood Valley

The Worthington Trojans boys hockey team was tied with Redwood Valley at the end of every period Thursday night but wound up losing in overtime to the Cardinals, 5-4.
The Trojans and Cardinals were even at 1 apiece after one, then were deadlocked at 3 after two and 4 after three. WHS slipped to 2-22 and Redwood Valley is 6-17. The Trojans play their final regular-season game Saturday at home against La Crescent-Hokah.

In an area girls basketball game Thursday, Murray County Central built a 10-point second half lead and then fought back a Heron Lake-Okabena/Fulda charge to ultimately win 65-55.
Calleigh Doeden had 15 points for the Rebels, who won their sixth in a row and are now 13-9. Joelle Hellewell had 10 points and Katherine Miller also had 10, including a big 3-pointer with roughly a minute remaining that iced the game.
The Coyotes, now 11-13, got 21 points from Renae Salentiny and 13 from Ashton Reierson.

The Worthington Trojans played a girls/boys basketball doubleheader Thursday evening at Luverne. The Cardinals picked up the triumph in the girls game, 84-46, and were then victorious 65-52 in the boys contest. Both the WHS girls and boys play at Belle Plaine tonight.
