WFD responds to Sunday morning apartment fire

Worthington firefighters responded to a fire Sunday morning in an apartment building in the 1100 block of Fourth Avenue.

Worthington Fire Chief Pat Shorter said Monday morning that firefighters were dispatched at 8:15 a.m. Sunday. Upon arrival, they observed a ventilation fan in the ceiling that was melting. The fire had spread into the roof, and firefighters pulled down sheetrock and were soon able to extinguish the blaze.

An apartment resident is temporarily displaced as a result of the fire. Though he was home at the time, he was unhurt. Eighteen firefighters responded to the call, and they were on the scene for about an hour and 45 minutes.
