Weekend ATV crash results in Rock County results in fatality

A 68-year-old man died as a result of a Saturday ATV crash in Rock County.


According to a press release from the Rock County Sheriff's Office, a 911 call was received by the office at 12:32 p.m. Saturday from an individual reporting a possible fatal crash involving an ATV while hunting.


The press release notes that the location of the call was approximately 1½ miles north of the Minnesota/Iowa border along the Rock River near Ash Creek. The caller stated that they were in a middle of a pasture and had found the victim and his ATV. The sheriff's office, along with the Rock County Ambulance, Hills Fire Department and the Luverne Fire Department, were dispatched to the scene.


Upon arrival, it was determined that the male individual was deceased, the sheriff's office reported. According to family reports, the male individual had left his residence earlier in the morning to go deer hunting. He was riding his ATV from the roadway to his hunting stand. It had appeared that he had tipped over his ATV

along an embankment, and it came to rest on top of him.


The man was later identified in an updated press release as Charles A. VanWyhe, 68, from Luverne. Funeral arrangements are being handled by Hartquist Funeral Home, Luverne.
