Warm weather, shortage of rain sum up June's weather

Worthington's weather in June included high and low temperatures that were considerably warmer than normal as well as much drier than average conditions, according to data compiled at the Worthington Wastewater Treatment Plant.

The average high temperature in Worthington this past month was 82.4 degrees, which is 4.0 degrees warmer than what’s typical. The warmest high of the month, 89, was recorded on three occasions -- June 1, 3 and 7 -- and there were highs of 88 four times -- on June 5, 6, 16 and 24.

The average low in Worthington in June was 59.6 degrees, which is 2.2 degrees above the normal of 57.4. The coolest reading of the month came on the 12th at 49 degrees, while a low of 50 was recorded on the 11th. On June 7 and 20, meanwhile, the low came in at 67, the warmest such readings of the month.

Worthington received 3.1 inches of precipitation during the month of June, which is 2.14 inches less than the 5.24 inches that's typical. The wettest day came with 1.28 inches of rain measured on June 18. Six months into 2023, there has been 11.09 inches of precipitation, which translates to 4.21 inches less than the normal 15.30 inches.

As for temperatures, the average high so far this year has been 48.5; the average low 28.9. By comparison, the average high for a typical first six months of the year is also 48.5 and the typical low is 28.7. Those numbers have both evened out after a chillier-than-normal start to 2023.
