A car drove through the front of Hibbett Sports late Wednesday morning in Worthington.

According to a Thursday press release from Worthington Police Department Interim Police Chief Nate Grimmius, officers arrived at the scene and located a 2019 Ford Escape that had crashed through the windows of Hibbett Sports and was resting inside the building. The vehicle was operated by Barbara Torkelson, 79, of Windom. Torkelson advised that she was attempting to back out of a parking stall when she put the vehicle in drive instead of reverse, causing her to accelerate into the building. The crash was reported at 11:39 a.m. Wednesday.

Neither the driver or her passenger --  a 76-year-old Jeffers female — needed to be transported for injuries, and occupants inside the building were unhurt. The building sustained damage to several large windows but did not appear to have any other structural damage, the WPD reported.
