Two cars hit buckle on I-90, resulting in injuries to four people

Four people were injured early Tuesday evening when a pair of vehicles traveling on Interstate 90 hit a buckle in the road.


According to the Minnesota State Patrol, a 2023 Buick Envision operated by David Junior Barkema, 71, of Belmond, Iowa was eastbound, as was a 2019 Honda Pilot operated by David Gerald Hayse, 76, of Gulf Breeze, Fla. Both vehicles hit a buckle in the road near milepost 28. The incident took place at 6:43 p.m. Tuesday.


Barkema and his passenger, Jeanne Marie Barkema, 71, of Belmond, as well as Hayse and his passenger, Cheryl Leigh Hayse, 77, of Gulf Breeze were all transported to Sanford Worthington Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries. The Nobles County Sheriff's Office, Adrian Fire and Police Departments and the Minnesota Department of Transportation assisted at the scene.
