Trojans storm back to grab 3-2 VB win over Southwest MN Christian

The Worthington Trojans volleyball team fell behind 0-2 in games Thursday night against host Southwest Minnesota Christian, but rallied to post a 3-2 victory. Game scores were 23-25, 27-29, 25-12, 25-12, 15-13.
WHS, which concluded its regular season with a 10-16 overall record, got 16 kills from Lauren Nixon and 14 from Alaina Feit. Kamryn Olson contributed 20 digs and Suzanna Shwe was next with 18. Kamryn Olson and Feit each had four ace serves; Natya Khamphanh passed for 38 set assists and also had two ace serves. Kaitlyn Mulder chipped in with four solo blocks.
Danica Nordby had 16 kills to boost Southwest Minnesota Christian.
Worthington has received the No. 7 seed in the Section 2AAA tournament and will play at second-seeded Willmar next Wednesday night.

Worthington High School senior Austin Kinser earned all-conference honors Tuesday by placing 10th in the Big South Conference cross-country meet in Luverne.
Kinser finished with a time of 17:29.36. WHS junior Asrat Bonnett earned honorable mention status by taking 17th in a time of 18:07.31. Other Worthington runners competing included Braddock Marquardt, 36th; Evan Meyer, 39th; Ryan Phelps, 42nd; Andrew Olague, 51st; Jose Chavez Vega, 52nd; and Holden Meyer, 56th. As a team, the Trojans placed fifth with 132 points. Belle Plaine won the meet with 40 points.
In the girls race, senior Madison Sieve earned all-conference honorable mention honors, placing 15th with a personal record time of 21:14.86. Junior Emily Dahlquist was next across for the Trojans in 36th place, followed by Michelle Chicas Melendez in 44th and Anna Gordon in 46th. Ariana Schettler, Myranda Widboom and Annabelle Hardwood were 48th through 50th. Worthington was sixth as a team; St. Peter was first.
