The Worthington Trojans wrestling team scored a pair of victories Thursday in their first action of the season, winning 42-33 over Sheldon/South O’Brien and topping Spirit Lake Park 66-18 in Sheldon.
Against Sheldon/South O’Brien, the Trojans got wins by fall from Alex Galvez at 113, Emmanuel Saraia at 120, Dalton Larson at 126, Ethan Meyer at 138, Miat Htoo at 145 and Levi Hennings at 170. Chase Byrne won by decision at 160 and Kasey Gerhard was triumphant by major decision at 285.
Against Spirit Lake Park, wins by fall were recorded by Alex Galvez, Larson, Miat Htoo, Mason Schutz at 195 and Gerhard. WHS also won six matches via forfeit.

Windom’s Ella Docker scored a power-play goal with 39.7 seconds remaining in the third period Thursday to boost the visiting Eagles over Worthington 3-2 in a girls hockey matchup.
Windom, which outshot the Trojans by a commanding 40-8 margin, scored twice in the first period to take a 2-0 edge. Presley Docker set up Ella Dockter on the first goal at 9:17 and Victoria Robillard added an unassisted goal at 11:17.
Addison Joens got Worthington on the board at 15:35 of the second period on an assist from Riley Nickel, and Marin Pederson grabbed a loose puck and skated roughly two-thirds of the rink to knot the score at 1:14 of the third period.
Lillyana Newman had 37 saves for the Trojans, who are now 1-2 this season. Windom is 3-2.
