Trojans host conference boys golf meet at home; tennis team edged

The Worthington Trojans boys golf team finished seventh in a Big South Conference event on Wednesday at GreatLIFE Worthington.
Marshall placed first in the team competition with a score of 144, with St. Peter second at 159. The Trojans had a team score of 182.
Marshall sophomore Deacon Wing and Tigers senior Luke Ehlers tied for day's low round at 35. Ryan Dorcey had the best round of the afternoon for WHS, as he shot a 42.
Other counting scores Wednesday for the Trojans were Spenser Nickel at 46, Garret Larson at 47 and Cameron Krommendyk at 47. Also playing were Tyson Petersen, who carded a 49, and Ayden Stugelmeyer, who had a 53.

The Worthington Trojans boys tennis team played a tennis match at home Tuesday afternoon against Lac Qui Parle Valley/Dawson-Boyd and was defeated 4-3. Worthington picked up victories in the match at No. 3 singles as well as at No. 2 doubles and No. 3 doubles.
At No. 3 singles, the Trojans' Bennett Oberloh picked up a win in straight sets by scores of 6-1, 7-6. At No. 2 doubles, it was Cristian Miranda and Coltin Olmanson of Worthington earning a 6-3, 6-3 triumph. The No. 3 Trojan tandem of Nik Martinez and Xander Barber also won by scores of 7-6, 6-1.
Tuesday's match almost went the Trojans' way. At No. 4, Daelen Sithad lost in three sets, with the final set ending with a 7-6 score.
The WHS boys tennis team is in action again Thursday at New Ulm.

The Minnesota West Bluejay baseball season concluded Tuesday following a pair of losses on the road at Iowa Lakes Community College. Minesota West was beaten in five innings in both games, dropping the opener 11-1 and then falling in the second matchup 13-3.
In the first game, Iowa Lakes jumped out -to a huge advantage early as it scored nine runs in the bottom of the first inning off Bluejay starting pitcher Brayden Peterson. Minnesota West got its only run in the fourth when Johnny Ramsey's hit brough home Kazuya Sukawa. Ramsey had a single and double in the ballgame, while Sukawa and Marcos Casteneda each connected for doubles of their own.
In game two, the Bluejays tied the score at one-apiece in the second, but Iowa Lakes got one in the third, five more in the fifth and six in the sixth to clinch the win.
Ramsey went 3-for-3 at the plate with three singles and wound up going 5-for-5 overall on the day. He finishes the season with a .313 batting average and team highs of five home runs and 30 RBIs. Haruto Endo led the team in batting average at .421; he hit four doubles and five triples while stealing 22 bases in 25 attempts. In pitching, Tucker Brandner led all hurlers with a 2.20 earned run average
Minnesota West completed its season with a record of 14-28-1.
