Trojans girls golf team advances in sectional tourney

The Worthington Trojans girls golf team competed Wednesday in the Class 3AA Section Tournament at Oakdale Golf Club.


It was day one of sectional competition Wednesday, with the top five teams moving on to play in Day Two. The Trojans advanced by coming in fourth as a team.


Redwood Valley had the lowest score with 334 strokes. Worthington, meanwhile, came in at 370 strokes. Marshall came in fifth at 379.


Leading the way individually for WHS was Lilly Mahlberg, who finished with a round of 85. Also playing Wednesday for the Trojans were: Madison Beckmann, 92; Mia Nixon, 96; Tarren Spartz, 97; Claire Mahlberg, 99; and Ellie Weg, 114.


Day Two of sectional play is next Wednesday.

The Section 2A baseball tournament gets underway today with first-round action. Among the games are ninth-seeded BOLD at No. 8 Martin County West in Welcome; No. 13 Heron Lake-Okabena/Fulda at fourth-seeded Mankato Loyola; and 10th-seeded Mountain Lake Area-Comfrey at No. 7 Madelia. All games begin at 5 p.m.


Second round action is scheduled for Tuesday; the section finals will be June 8 at ISG Field in Mankato. Sleepy Eye is the tournament's top seed.

The Section 3AA baseball tounmament starts Saturday. Among the opening-round games are No. 7 Pipestone taking on No. 2 Luverne and No. 4 Windom facing Jackson County Central. Games will be played in Fairmont,
