Trojans get representation on All- Big South Conference soccer teams

Several members of the Worthington Trojans boys soccer team have earned All- Big South Conference honors.
Selections for the team included junior defenders Diego Alvarado and Juan Sandoval as well as senior forward Danny Banegas. Recognized as honorable mention members of the team were junior midfielder Saul Galvez and senior forward Andy Guzman.
WHS won the Big South's Gold Division this fall, while Tri-City United captured the Black Division and later edged the Trojans in the conference championship match. Tri-City United also had three players earn all-conference honors and two named as honorable mentions.
In girls soccer, senior midfielder Pay Poe was recognized as all-conference for the Trojans+. Fairmont, which won the Gold Division and then beat Black Division champ New Ulm in the conference final, had three all-conference picks and one honorable mention. The Eagles had three all-conference selections and two honorable mentions.

The Sibley-Ocheyedan High School football team at West Sioux on Friday night in an Iowa High School Activities Association Class A Pod C playoff game at Hawarden.
The Generals have a record of 5-4 on the season following a 41-35 triumph last Friday over Newman Catholic. The Falcons, meanwhile, are 8-1.
Kickoff time for the S-O at West Sioux game is 7 p.m.

Second-seeded Westbrook-Walnut Grove moved on to the Section 3A South Subsection volleyball finals and ended Adrian-Ellsworth's season with a 3-0 win Tuesday night in a semifinal match at Worthington High School. Game scores were 25-18, 25-22, 25-20.
W-WG, now 20-10 on the fall, will meet top-seeded Russell-Tyler-Ruthton, which has a record of 26-5, on Thursday night at Southwest Minnesota State University. The Dragons finish their season at 17-9.
The Chargers got off to a 1-0 lead in the match by capturing game one's final 10 points after trailing 18-15. The Dragons led by as many as five at 14-9, but W-WG stormed back behind 10 kills from Carlie Ross.
In the second game, Adrian-Ellsworth grabbed an early 11-9 edge, but the Chargers tallied the next six points for a 15-11 advantage, forcing a Dragons' timeout. A-E eventually knotted the score at 20-apiece, but promptly surrendered a point on a serving error and W-WG didn't trail the rest of the game.
The Chargers went on to score the first five points of game three and proceeded to lead by as many as 10 at 17-7. The Dragons, though, didn't go away, and got within four points of W-WG before the Chargers closed things out.
Kamry Lehnhoff led Adrian-Ellsworth offensively with nine kills on the night. Ross paced W-WG with 18 kills.
In Tuesday night's other semifinal, R-T-R blanked fifth-seeded Murray County Central 3-0 by scores of 25-13, 25-15, 25-12.
MCC concluded its season with a 13-11 record. Suttyn Schryvers led the Rebels with 11 kills against the Knights, who are ranked No. 3 in the state in Class A.

In South Subsection 3AA volleyball semifinal play Tuesday, host Jackson County Central beat Pipestone Area 3-0. The Huskies will meet Windom, who beat Luverne 3-1 on Tuesday, in the subsection final at 7 p.m. Thursday in Springfield.
