Trojans drop pair of high school tennis matches

The Worthington Trojans girls tennis squad lost a pair of matches on the road Tuesday afternoon, falling to New Prague 5-2 and Jordan 7-0.


Against New Prague, Worthington No. 1 seed singles player Ivy Jenson rolled to a 6-1 6-0 victory over Payton Peterson. The other triumph for WHS came at No. 2 singles, at which Hannah McNab got past Ella Blackford by scores of 3-6 6-3 10-2.


Each of New Prague's triumphs over Worthington came in straight sets.


Against Jordan, the Hubmen won each of the seven matches in straight sets. The closest two matches were at No. 2 and No. 4 singles. At No. 2, Jordan's Makayla Haugen beat Jenson 6-4 6-3; No. 4 Naomi Salzwedl topped the Trojans' Taylor Nordseth by an identical score.


Sectional girls tennis action is scheduled to begin on Monday afternoon, with high seeds playing host.
