The Worthington Trojans boys soccer team maintained its dominating ways Tuesday night, following up Saturday’s 7-0 win over Austin with another 7-0 triumph over visiting Fairmont.
With the win, WHS improved to 6-1 on the season ahead of two more matches this week. The Trojans play at St. James/Windom/Madelia on Thursday and are back home to host Academy of Holy Angels on Friday night.
Worthington, which is now ranked sixth in the state Class AA boys soccer poll, got its first goal 7:25 into the game when Carlos Castillo scored up close following a pretty pass from Jonathan Banegas. It was Danny Banegas putting in a rebound for the next WHS goal just 2:26 later to make it 2-0. Jonathan Banegas added a goal with 9:20 remaining in the opening half for a 3-0 Trojan lead.
Jonathan Banegas went on to finish off a hat trick with a pair of goals two and a half minutes apart from each other. Up 5-0 with 32:16 remaining in the second half, WHS would take in two more goals, with Christian Martinez scoring with 16:45 to go and Danny Banegas on a pass from Jonathon with 7:04 left.

The Trojans girls soccer team played at Fairmont on Tuesday night and was defeated 6-0. The loss drops Worthington to 1-5 on the season.
It will be “Meet the Trojans” and “Parents Night” at the girls soccer match Thursday at Trojan Field when WHS meets St. James/Windom/Madelia at 7 p.m. After the match, people will have the chance to pick up team posters and meet with team members.

The Worthington Trojans girls volleyball team traveled to Redwood Valley on Tuesday night and was defeated 3-0 by the Cardinals. Game scores were 25-12, 25-18, 25-15.
Madison Beckmann had seven kills and a pair of blocks for Worthington, while Regan Schaefer and Madeline Peterson each contributed six digs. Peterson also had the lone Trojan ace serve on the night. Addison Gerber passed for 16 set assists.
WHS is now 2-3 on the season and 1-2 in conference play. The Trojans will play their next match on Thursday at Fairmont.
