The Worthington High School gymnastics team captured the Big South Conference meet Friday night at home, toping Martin County West 141.525 to 135.95.
The Trojans, competing in their final home meet in the season, were paced again by senior Hali Bullerman, who captured the all-around competition with a total score of 37.9 points. Bullerman won the vault with a stellar score of 9.7 while also taking first in the other three events as well. She won the floor with a 9.574, the vault with a 9.375 and the bars with a 9.25.
Addison Gerber finished third in the all-around for WHS; she took second place on the floor and third place on both vault and beam. Brooklyn Dykstra was second on the vault for the Trojans, and Jordis Weber placed third on the bars.
Next up for the Trojans is the Section 3A meet on Saturday. If they win, they’ll be off to state for the 10th consecutive year. That meet will be Feb. 23-24 in St. Paul.

The third-ranked Minnesota West Lady Jays outscored host St. Cloud Tech in every quarter Saturday and came away with a 61-42 victory to improve to 19-7 overall and 8-2 in the MCAC South.
Olivia Hayenga, who was last week’s NJCAA Division III Women’s Basketball Player of the Week, had 25 points and 14 rebounds. Hattie DeVries contributed 16 points and eight rebounds for the Lady Jays, who held St. Cloud Tech to 30% shooting from the floor and 1-of-21 on 3-point shooting. Minnesota West’s offense turned the ball over just six times in the game.
In the men’s game that followed, Minnesota West held a 40-39 edge at the half but wound up losing 77-67. The Bluejays are 4-20 overall and 2-9 in MCAC South action.
Jiekgoy Wiel scored 21 points and pulled down 13 rebounds to lead Minnesota West in both those categories. Also in double figures scoring for the Bluejays were Teddy Collins Jr. with 11 points and Henry Counsel with 10.

The WHS boys basketball team traveled to Hutchinson on Saturday and came away with a 97-90 triumph to move to 11-9 overall on the season. Zach Hayenga poured in 41 points for the Trojans, who will be back in action tonight at New Ulm.

In high school girls basketball Saturday, the Worthington Trojans were defeated on the road at Sioux City West. 69-23. Worthington hosts Southwest Minnesota Christian on Tuesday.

In boys hockey Friday night, WHS was beaten at home by Winona, 7-0. The Trojans’ next game is Thursday, when they host Windom Area.
