Trojan gymnasts total 142.8 points in Friday night win

Hali Bullerman won the all-around for the fourth time in four meets this season and the Worthington High School gymnastics team scored a season high in its 142.80-122.875 win at home over Windom.


Bullerman tallied an all-around score of 36.475 points. She won the vault (9.3) and the bars (9.425) and was third on both the beam and the floor. Trojan Addison Gerber was tops on both the beam (8.975) and the floor (9.35) and was second on the vault and in the all-around. Brooklyn Dykstra took second on both the bars and beam for the Trojans, and Olivia Barber was second on the floor.

In high school boys basketball Friday, the Worthington Trojans went on the road to New Prague and picked up a 67-49 win. The Trojans, now 4-1, led by 13 at the half. They had four players in double figures scoring as Kaleb Knothe had 17 points, Jacari Swinea 15, Zach Hayenga 13 and Andrew Mulder 11.

In high school girls basketball Friday, the Trojans had a 9-6 edge on visiting St. Peter nearly halfway through the first half, but the Saints then went on a 19-0 run and eventually defeated WHS 67-21. St. Peter is unbeaten and ranked fourth in the state in Class AAA.

Adrian-Ellsworth had three wrestlers place this past weekend at the Redwood River Riot.


Moe Edrman wound up with a second-place finish at 121 pounds. At 285, Jarem Winselman earned a fourth-place finish. Rilee Heidebrink placed eighth at 160; a medical forfeit resulted in losses in his final two matches.


For Fulda-Murray County Central, Kaston Clarke was fourth at 107 pounds, Aiden Lorenzen was eighth at 139 and Carson Klein eighth at 189.


Worthington did not have any of its wrestlers place.

Jackson County Central wrestlers Kyler Thier (107), Dallas Gossen (114), Kayden Eller (120), Isaac Rodriguez (126), Ben Dahlin (144), Nolan Ambrose (150) and Seth Stai (175) each finished first Saturday at the Austin Roberts Memorial Tournament Saturday in Spencer.

The Worthington Trojans girls hockey team came up just short Friday night at home against Prairie Center, as a goal with just 3:01 left in the third period sending WHS to a 2-1 defeat.


Prairie Center took a 1-0 lead into period number three, but Breeta Johnson scored on assists from Madelyn Cummings and Madeline Petersen to tie things up with 10:43 to go. Trojans goalie Macie Mahlberg made 30 saves in the loss as Worthington was outshot 32-23.


On Saturday, the Trojans were on the road against at Morris/Benson and were beaten 3-0.

In boys hockey, WHS was on the road Friday night at Breckenridge/Wahpeton and was defeated 10-5.


Easton Newman and Dawson Duangapai scored for the Trojans in the first period, after which Worthington trailed 3-2. The home team then got the three goals in the second period, but Caden Van Briesen and Dominic Pavelko scored early in the third to make it a 6-4 game. The Trojans then surrendered the game’s next three goals before Newman picked up his second of the night. WHS was defeated despite a 30-26 shots-on-goal advantage.


On Saturday, the Trojans fell at Morris/Benson by a score of 8-4. Morris/Benson got the first five goals of the game before Anthony Jimenez put one in for Worthington. Jimenez scored once again in the latter stages of the third period. Ayden Stugelmeyer and Pavelko had the other WHS goals.
