Trojan girls win first basketball game of season

The Worthington Trojans girls basketball team picked up its first victory of the season Tuesday night as they won on the road at Albert Lea, 63-26.

 

Janessa Hamann had 12 points, Madison Beckmann added 11 aand Regan Schaefer contributed 10 as WHS improved to 1-6. Coach C.J. Nelson said his team was able to settle down after a shaky start and run its offense more successfully as the Trojans went into halftime ahead 26-15.


Nelson also commended his players for improving at their communication on defense and moving from place to place. He noted that his team had a lot of happy girls after beating the Tigers, and that he hoped the triumph would give the Trojans some extra energy going into a Thursday night road game at Jackson County Central.

In an area high school boys basketball game heard on 104.3 The Bridge, it was visiting Murray County Central topping Heron Lake-Okabena/Fulda 77-55. The Rebels led 39-23 at halftime and with the triumph improved to 3-4 on the season. The Coyotes are 1-6.

 

Leading MCC in scoring Tuesday was Aidan Dierks with 22 points. Three other players had double-digit point totals for the Rebels – Bryce Hoekman with 17, Carter Lewis with 15 and Hudson Schryvers with 11. For Heron Lake-Okabena/Fulda, Sam Goedtke had 13 and Logan Hattendorf contributed 11.
