Madison Beckmann carded a 46 on a cool, breezy Thursday afternoon to lead the Worthington Trojans girls golf team to a 215-229 victory over host Western Christian.
Other scoring rounds for the Trojans included Claire Mahlberg (53), Abryona Erwin (56) and Claire Meyer (60). The WHS girls won for the third time in three outings thus far this spring.
The Trojans’ boys golf team, meanwhile, was topped by Western Christian 172-183. Worthington’s Logan Powers tied for medalist honors with a round of 40. Andrew Mulder shot a 45 for WHS, and Spenser Nickel and Wesley Widboom each had 49s.

In girls softball Thursday, WHS was defeated on the road in Windom, 19-2, in four innings.
The Trojans took a 1-0 edge in the first when Bailey Ponto drew a leadoff walk, stole second and advanced to third on a throwing error and then came home on a passed ball. Windom, however, scored 13 times in the bottom of the first. WHS got its other run in the fourth when Hannah McNab singled and later came around to score on a base hit by Emma Hietbrink.

At the six-team Windom Eagle Track and Field Invite on Thursday, the Worthington Trojan boys tallied 115 points and came in second behind Windom Area’s 130. Heron Lake-Okabena/Fulda was third with 110 points.
Fanuel Wolday took first place for WHS in the 800 meters, and Caleb Meyer was first in the high jump for the Trojans. Heron Lake-Okabena/Fulda had three individual winners in the meet – Caleb Appel in the 400, Carson Klein in the discus and Aiden Lorenzen in the pole vault.
Among the girls, Worthington finished third at 74 ponts; Redwood Valley was first at 182 and Jackson County Central third at 138.
JCC had multiple individual champions, with Rylie Cother coming out on top in the 100-meter and 300-meter hurdles as well as the high jump. For the Trojans, Grace Bates took the 400 meters, New Gora won the triple jump and the 4x200 relay team of Pham Gora, Sara Esquivel, Bates and New Gora also won.
