Trojan Breeta Johnson is a girls hockey all-conference pick

Worthington Trojan sophomore Breeta Johnson has been named to Big South Conference Girls Hockey All-Conference Team, it was announced Wednesday.


Johnson was recognized with first-team honors and was the lone Trojan player to earn all-conference recognition.


Minnesota River had four players on the first team and one as an honorable mention pick. Luverne had senior Ella Apel and sophomore Ellie VanBatavia named to the first team, and juniors Tenly Behr and Rylee Kurtz picked as honorable mention. Windom, meanwhile, had one person chosen, as junior Alicia Meyeraan was an honorable mention selection.

Fifth-seeded Jackson County Central won its quarterfinal State Class A Wrestling Tournament match Wednesday against United North Central 35-23, then lost to top seed Staples-Motley 63-3.


Kyler Thier (145 pounds) and Cael Entriken (215) each won by fall for the Huskies, and Mathias Liepold (127), Isaac Rodriguez (139) and Carson Kolander (189) all got victories by technical fall. Payton Sorbel (107), Colten Gossen (114) and Dezmynd Tupper (133) each won by decision.


Dallas Gossen won by decision at 152 against Staples-Motley for the lone points for JCC, which will wrestle Minneota for third place at 4 p.m. Thursday.


Individual wrestling action in both Class A and Class AA begins at 9 a.m. Thursday and continues through Saturday.
