The Worthington Trojans boys track and field team placed third of 10 schools during Tuesday’s Section 2AA True Team meet in Faribault. Mankato East totaled 501.5 points to earn first place, while Faribault was second at 431 and the Trojans next with 417.
Individual leaders for WHS were: Marenono Opiew, first in the 300 meter hurdles, second in the triple jump and third in the 110 meter hurdles; Abagotte Opiew, first in the triple jump, third 200 in the meters and fifth in the 110 meter hurdles; Mikele Walu, third in the 800 meters and tied for fifth in the high jump; Fanuel Wolday, third in the 3200 meters; Mak Lia, fourth in the long jump; Filmon Wolday, fifth in the 1600 meters; Adan Hinojosa, fifth in the discus; and Charlie Brands, tied for fifth in the high jump. The Trojans’ 4x400 and 4x800 relay teams both finished in second place, while the 4x200 relay team took third.
In girls competition, Mankato East won with a team total of 561 points. Worthington was 10th at 132.

In high school baseball Tuesday, the Fairmont Cardinals – ranked no. 1 in the state in Class AA – blanked the visiting Worthington Trojans 10-0 in five innings.
Lincoln Becker had three hits for Fairmont and Nate Soelter, Brendan Schmidtke, Levi Pooley and Ben Moeller each had two as the Cardinals collected 12 hits in all. Moeller hurled four shutout innings for the pitching win. For Worthington, Max Ostrem, Triston Sauerbrei and Kaleb Knothe each had singles.

In high school girls golf Tuesday, the Worthington Trojans won a home meet against Jackson County Central, topping the Huskies 195-230.
The Trojans’ Lilly Mahlberg had the low round of the day for either team as she recorded a nine-hole round of 46. Teammate Madison Beckmann was right behind her with a 47, and Mia Nixon followed for WHS at 49. Also competing for the Trojans varsity were: Claire Mahlberg, who had a 53; Tarren Spartz, a 56; and Ellie Weg, a 57.
In boys golf, Worthington finished second of three teams in a Tuesday afternoon home meet. Pipestone Area had a cumulative score of 160, the Trojans had 168 and Jackson County Central had 177.
The Trojans were paced by a round of 39 from Tyler Jaycox and a 40 from Andrew Mulder. Spenser Braaksma carded a 43, Spenser Nickel had a 46 and Waylon Crooks shot a 57.
