Thursday crash causes life-threatening injuries

A Lakefield woman sustained life-threatening injuries in a two-vehicle crash early Thursday morning.

According to the Minnesota State Patrol, a 2000 Jeep Cherokee operated by Heather Jean Croatt, 54, of Lakefield was southbound on Minnesota 86, and a 2016 Freightliner operated by Alan Timothy Cords, 56, of Janesville had stopped in the southbound lane for an unrelated vehicle. The collision was reported at 6:30 a.m. Thursday about one mile north of the Minnesota-Iowa state line.

Croatt was taken by ambulance to Lakes Regional Healthcare in Spirit Lake with life threatening injuries. Cords was unhurt.

The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office, as well as the Lakefield Fire Department and Ambulance, assisted on the scene.
