Three lopsided wins in amateur baseball playoff openers

The Region 13C Amateur Baseball playoffs opened Wednesday night with three lopsided shutouts as well as a three-run win. Two of the four best-of-three series have game twos tonight; the other two will have their second games on Saturday.

Luverne, the No. 1 seed in the Region 13C playoffs, cruised to a 15-0 seven-inning triumph over eighth-seeded Heron Lake. The Redbirds will play at the Lakers at 2 p.m. Saturday. If a game three is necessary, it will be at 2 p.m. Sunday in Luverne.

Fourth-seeded Windom and fifth-seeded Hadley played Wednesday night’s closest contest, with Windom ending up on top 6-3. The Pirates will play game two at Hadley at 2 p.m. Saturday. The Buttermakers would play at Windom at 2 p.m. Sunday if a third game is needed.

Fairmont, the tournament’s No. 2 seed, shut out No. 7 Lakefield 10-0 in seven innings in their game one on Wednesday. The Martins and Horned Frogs play at 7:30 p.m. tonight in Lakefield. A third matchup would be at 2 p.m. Sunday in Fairmont.

Jackson, the tourney’s No. 6 seed, upset No. 3 Milroy in dominating fashion Wednesday, winning 17-0 in seven innings. The Bulls host the Irish at 7:30 p.m. tonight. Should Milroy win, they’ll host game three at 2 p.m. Sunday.
