State wrestling tourney will be Thursday-Saturday

The Minnesota State High School League’s annual Wrestling State Tournament gets underway Thursday and continues through Saturday.

 

The team tournament will take place Thursday, and a two-day individual tourney will be Friday and Saturday. All action will be at the Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul.

 

Representing the region in Class A will be Jackson County Central’s wrestling team, which is ranked fifth in the state and the defending state champion. The Huskies will meet No. 4 Lake Crystal Wellcome Memorial Area in a quarterfinal match at 11 a.m. today.

 

In the individual tournament, Adrian-Ellsworth will have two wrestlers competing – Moe Erdman at 121 pounds and Jaren Winselman at 285.. For Fulda/Murray County Central, Kaston Clarke will wrestle at 107 and Quintin Lewis at 160. Five Jackson County Central wrestlers have qualified -- Kyler Thier at 107 pounds, Kayden Eller at 114, Isaac Rodriguez at 121, Nolan Ambrose at 145 and Seth Stai at 172. Luverne’s Sam Rock will wrestle in the individual tournament at 172, and Windom-Mountain Lake has Preston Xayachak going at 114.


All weight classes for Class 1A, 2A and 3A feature 16-wrestler brackets. It's single elimination to place in the top two with the possibility to wrestle back as high as third place.

Olivia Barber, Hali Bullerman, Brooklyn Dykstra and Addison Gerber have been named to the Big South Conference West Division All-Conference Gymnastics team. Among those also earning spots were Clara Brinks, Romi Rosenbrook and Braelyn Boogerd of Jackson County Central; Amira Cowell and Ella Reisdorfer of Luverne; and Kadyn Paulson of Windom.

Among the players named to the Big South Conference Girls Hockey All-Conference team were Payton Behr, Tenley Behr and Ellie Van Batavia of Luverne. Marissa Becker of Windom was an honorable mention pick.
