Sports Briefs: June 6, 2023

The Worthington Area Youth Baseball Association is looking for people willing to help umpire the games it hosts throughout the season.

As there are many times WAYBA is hosting multiple games on the same night, the small pool of those who have made it known that they will help gets spread very thin. WAYBA pay $30 per game, which typically lasts one and a half to two hours. It tries to get two umps per game. If an individual umpires a game by themself, they will be paid $60.

Umpiring can also count toward the volunteer opportunities each WAYBA family is required to serve.

Contact TD Hostikka, who serves as WAYBA’s umpire coordinator, to get your name or your kid's name -- should be at least 13 years old – on the list to umpire. Hostikka can be reached at (507) 360-7783.
