Sports briefs for 9/9/25

The Worthington Trojans boys soccer team was in Fairmont Tuesday night to take on the Cardinals, but the match was postponed due to lightning. 


It has yet to be rescheduled, and it will be played from its beginning. The Trojans are scheduled to be on the road again Thursday to take on Waseca.

The WHS girls soccer team, meanwhile, was home against the Cardinals. The Trojans trailed 3-0 at the half and eventually were defeated 9-0. They'll be back home once more on Thursday to face Waseca.

In area high school volleyball action, Heron Lake-Okabena/Fulda was victorious against Murray County Central as the Coyotes beat the Rebels 3-1 in Fulda. Adrian-Ellsworth fell on the road, as the Dragons were beaten at Westbrook-Walnut Grove 3-1.

The Worthington Trojans' cross-country teams are one day away from hosting their annual Turkey Trot meet at the former Prairie View Golf Links property. Other schools' teams slated to compete at the meet include Adrian-Ellsworth, Fairmont, Murray County Central, New Ulm, Pipestone Area, Sioux Falls Lincoln, Southwest Minnesota Christian, Springfield, St. James Area, Wabasso and Windom. The meet is scheduled to begin at 4:30 p.m.

The latest NJCAA Division III Volleyball rankings released this week have Minnesota West holding at No. 3 for the third straight poll. Sadie Krahling, outside hitter for the Lady Jays, earned the latest MCAC South Division Offensive Athlete of the Week honor. 


In football, the Bluejays are up a spot this week to No. 4. Quarterback Armon Vinson was an Offensive Player of the Week honoree, and outside linebacker Darron Millender earned a Defensive Player of the Week award for the second straight week.
