Sports Briefs: Bluejay basketball home this weekend

Minnesota West men's and women's basketball teams will each play two games at home this weekend as the Bluejays host the Sanford Classic Friday and Saturday at the Center for Health and Wellness.

The Lady Jays, who posted a pair of lopsided victories on the road this past weekend against Sisseton Wahpeton College, and the Minnesota West men, who split two away contests at the same school, will each play the Northwestern College JV and the Dordt University JV on Friday and Saturday, respectively.

Games set for Friday on Minnesota West's Worthington campus include: a 4 p.m. men's basketball matchup between Ridgewater College and Dordt; a 6 p.m. game between the Lady Jays and the Northwestern JV; and an 8 p.m. showdown between the Bluejay men and Northwestern's JV.

On Saturday, there will be a 2 p.m. men's basketball showdown between Ridgewater and the Northwestern JV, followed by a 4 p.m. Lady Jays game against Dordt's JV and a 6 p.m. game between the Bluejay men and the Dordt junior varsity.

Emma Haren, a senior outside hitter on the Jackson County Central High School volleyball team, has been named to the Minnesota Class AA All-State Team.

In Class A volleyball, Samantha Untiedt, a senior setter for Heron Lake-Okabena/Fulda, also earned all-state recognition. In Class AAA, senior outside hitter Brielle Riess of Marshall received all-state honors as well.

Additionally, JCC's Janet Haren earned the Minnesota Volleyball Coaches Association Outstanding Assistant Coach Award. Head coaches nominate their assistants for the honor.
