Sibley-Ocheyedan girls to run in state cross country meet Saturday

The Sibley-Ocheyedan girls cross country team will compete Saturday at the Iowa State Cross Country Meet at Lakeside Municipal Golf Course in Fort Dodge.

It has already been a great fall for the Generals, who began their season by capturing the Iowa Great Lakes XC meet on Sept. 4 and continuing to excel from there. The Generals next won a meet they hosted on Sept. 9, followed by a second-place finish in the B Class at the Tim Thomas Classic on Sept. 13 in Holstein.

The Sibley-Ocheyedan girls returned to their winning ways by capturing the Sept. 22 Sheldon XC Invite, then placed ninth against several bigger schools at the Sept. 29 Sioux Center invite. They were fourth at a Sept. 29 meet at Alta-Aurelia, and then placed in the spot at the Oct. 2 South O'Brien meet in Paullina.

The Generals finished in third place at an Oct. 7 meet in Cherokee and then took first at the Oct. 16 War Eagle Conference meet in Sanborn, Iowa. Sophomore Aleah Marco placed second in that event and set a personal record. Junior Myah Pohlen was sixth, sophomore Amadelaid Benitez eighth, sophomore Riley Childs ninth, freshman Lucy Heitritter 14th and freshman Gracie Odens 21st.

S-O followed up its conference meet title by placing second in the Class 1A State Qualifier in Emmetsburg. Marco was eighth in that event, and Pohlen was ninth and also set a PR. Benitez took 10th, Childs was 18th, Heitritter 19th and Odens 24th.

Saturday's state meet is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m.
